I blogged about speech recognition a couple of days ago and am moved to do so again by the inspiration of Alistair Hignall, the former England rugby player, who also played first-class cricket for Gloucestershire and is now a BBC Sport radio commentator.  Alistair gives a moving account today of his life as an MS sufferer and his reliance on Mondays as his day for recharging the batteries for the busy week ahead.

In a very cheerful piece of writing, he says that:

“My problems can therefore be managed; by using an electric buggy, by living in an apartment with no stairs and no garden, by a support worker who drives me around the country, by a speech recognition programme on my computer…”.

How wonderful to think that technology like speech recognition, which really is amazing when you stop to think about it and see it in action (I am seeing my words appear on screen right in front of me), can make such a difference to someone's personal life.  Best wishes to you, Alistair.
